New Granada Fire Station: Public Meeting April 29

Coastside Fire Protection District will hold a public meeting to learn about proposed construction of the new Granada Fire Station 41 on Obispo Rd. south of the existing fire station.

The meeting will include a presentation by the Board of Directors, staff and architect, followed by public question and answer session.

UPDATE 6/3/15:  The County will hold a Pre-Application public workshop on the proposed new fire station on July 16, 2015, 7:00 - 8:30 PM at El Granada Elementary School.

7th St Coastal Access Appeal Apr 28 at Board of Supervisors

An appeal of a new encroaching fence permit at the coastal end of 7th Street, Montara, will be heard by the Board of Supervisors April 28, at 9:00 AM, 400 County Center, Redwood City. (staff report - appendices)

Last February the Planning Commission approved a pair of permits to remove the view-blocking wall across the end of 7th St, but allowing a new private fence within the public right-of-way which would effectively add 300 sq.ft. of coastal bluff to the neighboring property owner's front yard.

UPDATE:  April 28 appeal hearing was continued at request of Supervisor Horsley to pursue a proposed compromise on placement of new encroaching fence.  Comments from public: Lisa Ketcham - slides; Dave Olson

UPDATE 9/24/15:  Supervisor Horsley's office announced that the applicant has agreed to the proposed compromise and revised their application for new fence encroachment on 7th St.  The appeal is expected to be heard by the Board of Supervisors on October 20, 2015. The net effect of the permits will be the entire 6-ft wall across the coastal end of 7th St. will be removed, and a new 4-ft-high wire mesh fence encroaching approximately 5 feet into the right-of-way will be installed next to existing residential landscaping along the front of the property at 101 7th St. 

Coastal Sediment Management Draft Plan Available for Review

Coastal Regional Sediment (sand) Management Plans (CRSMP) are being developed for specific portions of the coast (littoral cells).  The program seeks to present ways to restore and preserve beaches, reduce the proliferation of protective shoreline structures, sustain recreation and tourism, enhance public safety and access, restore coastal sandy habitats, and identify cost-effective solutions for restoration of areas impacted by excess sediment.  

Santa Cruz Littoral Cell CRSMP includes the coastline from Pillar Point to Moss Landing (including Pillar Point Harbor). The draft plan has been released for public review April 15 - May 15, 2015. There is an Executive Summary here. More info on MCC ocean/shoreline page
