The San Mateo Resource Conservation District (RCD) is preparing to kick off the annual First Rain program, which is of interest and beneficial to your constituents. “First Rain” is the first significant rain of the season, when polluted stormwater that has accumulated across the landscape during the dry season enters storm drains and creeks and flows into the ocean. We want you to be aware of this program since pollution in local creeks and beaches is an important issue for your constituents.
In addition, we are looking for adventurous volunteers to record data and collect water samples from between Montara and Half Moon Bay. The samples will be evaluated for bacteria, metals, and nutrients which can negatively impact humans and wildlife.
This event is open to all, so if anyone at your agency would like to volunteer we would love to see you there!
ADDITIONAL INFO:
First Rain is expected to occur in November and trained volunteers are on call until the event takes place. This is a one-time volunteer commitment. No experience is necessary but training is recommended and will be provided.
