Understanding how sea level rise will affect San Mateo County residents, businesses, services and infrastructure is the first step in building prepared, healthy and safe communities. The 2018 SMC Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment aims to do just that.

The report includes Asset Vulnerability Profiles which evaluate potential impacts and suggest solutions:

Hwy 1 at Surfers’ Beach
Mirada Rd

Pillar Point Harbor Pollution Source Investigation Update Feb 21

SMC Resource Conservation District (RCD) will provide an update presentation on their investigations of upland sources of bacterial contamination in Pillar Point Harbor, including the integrity and mapping of nearby sewage and stormwater pipes.

San Mateo County Harbor District meeting
Feb 21, 2018, 6:30pm
(agenda)
504 Ave Alhambra, second floor, El Granada

Can't make the meeting? PDF of presentation is posted and video [at 26 min] will be available.

Since 2002, Pillar Point Harbor has been included on a statewide list of contaminated water bodies due to its high concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria, which can come from any warm-blooded animal.  2008 RCD Pollution Study indicated the source of pollution was from upland areas via creeks and stormwater outfalls. RCD, in partnership with the Harbor District, continues to monitor harbor water quality and pursue investigation of upland sources.
