State Parks to Remove Ranger House on Eroding Miramar Bluff
News Release Jan 24, 2017:
Half Moon Bay, CA - A California State Parks residence threatened by cliff erosion will be removed. The residence is located at 6 Alcatraz Avenue and the building's foundation is close to the cliff edge. While the structure remains stable on its foundation, a plan to remove it is underway. Currently, the utilities (gas, electricity, water) have been disconnected and sewer lines are being sealed. No one is currently living in the house and its appliances have been removed. For public safety, a perimeter around the structure has been established with caution tape and signage, advising the public to stay out. It is the intention of State Parks to have the structure removed before it becomes unstable and hazardous.
The cliff at Miramar Beach where the home is located has slowly eroded over a number of years. Recent storms have accelerated the erosion requiring immediate action.
