State Parks to Remove Ranger House on Eroding Miramar Bluff

News Release Jan 24, 2017:

Half Moon Bay, CA - A California State Parks residence threatened by cliff erosion will be removed. The residence is located at 6 Alcatraz Avenue and the building's foundation is close to the cliff edge. While the structure remains stable on its foundation, a plan to remove it is underway. Currently, the utilities (gas, electricity, water) have been disconnected and sewer lines are being sealed. No one is currently living in the house and its appliances have been removed. For public safety, a perimeter around the structure has been established with caution tape and signage, advising the public to stay out. It is the intention of State Parks to have the structure removed before it becomes unstable and hazardous.

The cliff at Miramar Beach where the home is located has slowly eroded over a number of years. Recent storms have accelerated the erosion requiring immediate action.

Midcoast LED streetlight replacement project scheduled

The San Mateo County Department of Public works has notified the MCC that PG&E has now received all of the material required to start the LED streetlight replacement project (see Roads and Streetlights for the background on this project).

PG&E plans to start the replacement of the existing streetlights in the two Midcoast lighting districts, starting the week of January 23, 2017.   All streetlights in the districts will be replaced, with the low intensity, "amber" LED fixtures recommended by the MCC, based on community feedback.

Update on Thurs, Jan 26, 2017: As of this afternoon, the County DPW and PG&E have stopped the replacement project.   It is stopped because the incorrect fixtures ("white", and brighter than those planned) were being installed.  The project will remain on hold while they determine what happened, and how and when the correct fixtures will be installed.
