Committee to Develop County Parks Dog Mgmt Recommendations

SMC County Parks Dog Management Committee is comprised of ten community members who advise the Parks Commission as it seeks to update and clarify dog management policies in County Parks.

In addition to recommending updates to the County ordinances and identifying potential dog recreation opportunities, the Committee is expected to outline criteria to be used in identifying parks, places or trails best suited for dog activity and parameters for specific pilot areas where dog management will be allowed and carefully monitored to determine effectiveness.  Topics of enforcement, budget, owner education, and park infrastructure will also be on the Committee’s agenda.

The monthly Committee meetings (Sept 2016 – Aug 2017) are at 2pm in Redwood City and are open to the public.  The County webpage for this issue has more info on committee members, meeting dates, location, agendas and minutes.

County Parks Stewardship Corps: FMR Nov 19

Let’s support this new volunteer program in our local County Parks.  The Stewardship Corps program is seeking volunteers to work on habitat restoration and beautification projects on Saturday mornings 9am-12pm.  Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is on the schedule for Nov 19, preparing an area for planting along the Dardenelle Trail.  Meet at the FMR parking lot at Nevada & North Lake, rain or shine.

Stewardship Corps workdays include hands-on service and education about native plants and animals. Volunteers work together with staff to assist in activities like invasive plant removal, planting natives and seed collection.  No experience is necessary.  Tools, training and light snacks are provided.  Fulfills community service requirements.  Registration encouraged but not required.
