Board of Supervisors considers ballot measure to decide countywide or district elections

At their meeting Tues, June 26, the Board of Supervisors will reconsider putting to the voters in November the decision whether to elect supervisors countywide or by district.  The county is currently defending a lawsuit that claims the County Charter’s method of electing members of the Board of Supervisors “at-large” violates the California Voting Rights Act as to voters of Asian and Latino descent.

UPDATE 6/28/12:  Board of Supervisors approved the Ordinance submitting to the eligible registered voters at the November 6, 2012 election the question of whether they wish to amend the San Mateo County Charter to change the manner of electing members of the Board of Supervisors from an “at-large” to a “by-district” system.

Midcoast "Rural Community Investment Area" considered by ABAG

ABAG (Association of Bay Area Governments) Agenda for their June 6 Regional Planning Committee meeting includes a draft proposal for new designation for the Midcoast.  Instead of the controversial Priority Development Area (PDA) designation proposed earlier this year, the staff is proposing "Rural Community Investment Area".  Details here.

UPDATE 7/27/12:  The Midcoast has 5 Rural Community Investment Areas (RCIAs): Northern Montara, Moss Beach, Princeton, El Granada, and Miramar (acreage is limited - see maps).  Projects supported by any future funding under the RCIA designation should improve the pedestrian environment, enhance access for bicyclists and transit riders, and provide innovative ways to reduce Vehicle Miles Traveled.  The scale and costs of these projects would be consistent with the existing character and planned densities of the Midcoast.

Coastal Trail Committee Meeting June 7, 2012

The CCT Committee will meet on June 7 at 7:30pm. The location has yet to be determined. The committee objective is working with the community and county to establish a conceptual plan for the California Coastal Trail for the northern portion of the Midcoast from Pillar Point to Devil's slide. Primary emphasis will be given to the communities of Moss Beach and Montara.

In addition this meeting will discuss the Midcoast Parallel (Multi-modal) trail to help organize input for discussion of this topic at the next regular MCC meeting, June 13.

Those interested in participating should send a note to Len Erickson  committee chair.

UPDATE:  Meeting changed to Thursday, June 7, 7:30pm, at Granada Sanitary District office
