Parallel Trail Design Gets Underway
The County has entered a contract with BKF Engineers to complete Design Phase 1 of the initial segment of the Midcoast Multimodal Trail (aka Parallel Trail). The trail has long been envisioned as an east-of-highway multi-use transportation trail connecting the Midcoast communities to each other and to Half Moon Bay. The trail is expected to be completed in 4 segments. Design of the southern segment (from city limits at Mirada Rd. to Coronado in El Granada) is set to begin this summer.
The project will include complete environmental review, multiple public outreach events to develop a preferred trail alignment, and conceptual construction plans and estimates, to be presented to the County Planning Commission.
Design Phase 1 is expected to be completed in spring 2016. Phase 2 will include advanced design and permitting tasks in FY 2016-17. Project design and permitting is funded by a $500,000 grant from SMC Transportation Authority Measure A Ped/Bike Program.
